Toyota Australia is getting ready to expand the Corolla range with the introduction of the all-new Corolla sedan, arriving later this month. It joins the latest hatchback in jumping on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform.

The local arm will be offering three main trim lines, spanning from the Ascent Sport, SX, and top ZR. All variants will be available with either a 2.0L petrol or the company’s latest 1.8L hybrid, except the ZR. The ZR sedan will only be available with the petrol. The petrol unit produces 125kW while the 1.8 hybrid develops 90kW.

A manual transmission can be had with the 2.0L petrol in the base Ascent Sport, but all others come with a CVT auto. Fuel consumption on the official combined cycle is rated at 6.5L/100km for the 2.0L Ascent Sport manual, and 6.0L/100km for all auto petrol models. Going for the hybrid sees the figure drop to just 3.5L/100km, making it one of the most economical small cars on the market.

Like the hatchback, the new sedan sports a very dynamic and attractive exterior design. At the front is the rounded yet carved-out look, while the rear showcases a brand new styling theme. Going for the ZR adds some fetching 18-inch alloy wheels for a more dynamic look.

As standard, all models come with an 8.0-inch touch-screen media interface featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system includes Siri eyes-free functionality, and presents aux, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Cruise control, a rear-view camera, and autonomous emergency braking come as standard.

Moving up to the SX adds a premium three-spoke steering wheel, wireless phone charger, sat-nav with SUNA live traffic updates, and digital radio. ZR specification includes heated front seats with power adjustment for the driver, leather-style trim, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.

“By offering a similar level of premium features, grade levels and pricing across both Corolla body styles, customers can now simply choose a hatch or sedan, depending on their needs, without any sacrifices,” Toyota Australia vice president of sales and marketing, Sean Hanley, said.

Toyota says the new model is due to land here late in November. Prices will start from the following (excluding on-roads):

2020 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport sedan 2.0L petrol manual: $23,335
2020 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport sedan 2.0L petrol CVT: $24,835
2020 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport sedan 1.8L hybrid CVT: $26,335

2020 Toyota Corolla SX sedan 1.8L hybrid CVT: $29,735

2020 Toyota Corolla ZR sedan 2.0L petrol CVT: $33,635
