2020 Hyundai Kona update now on sale in Australia

Hyundai Australia has announced a string of updates for the rollout of the 2020 Hyundai Kona range. The main headlines include boosted safety for all and increased equipment for some.

The 2020 Kona range continues to entail the Go, Active, Elite, and range-topping Highlander. These are available with either a 110kW/180Nm 2.0-litre petrol, or a 130kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol. Going for the turbo adds all-wheel drive. Interestingly, all four grades are available with either powertrain.

Standard across the board, the 2020 Kona comes with forward collision avoidance assist. This is Hyundai’s autonomous emergency braking (AEB), and it operates in both city and urban environments. This means between the speeds of 8km/h and 75km/h, the system will automatically apply the brakes if it detects an imminent collision.

Also new for the range, all models come with Hyundai’s SafetySense suite. It includes driver attention warning, the AEB system, and lane keeping assist. Going for the Elite and Highlander adds adaptive cruise control and pedestrian detection, and the AEB system operates between a wider 8-160km/h. Speaking about the updated range, Hyundai Australia CEO, JW Lee, said:

“The 2020 Kona lineup builds on the broad appeal of our eye-catching small SUV, by making key SmartSense advanced safety technologies standard for every customer, regardless of their model grade choice.”

In terms of the standard features, the Go and Active come with a 7.0-inch touch-screen media interface packed with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moving up to the Elite and Highlander brings in an 8.0-inch screen that adds digital radio, a premium eight-speaker sound system, and push-button start.

So far this year (through July) Hyundai has sold 7574 Konas in Australia, which is up an impressive 10.2 per cent on the same period last year. It holds 6.5 per cent market share, standing as the third-best seller in the class, behind only the Mitsubishi ASX (12,024 units) and Mazda CX-3 (9041 units). The updated range is on sale now from the following prices (excludes on-road costs):
