2020 BMW 1 Series showcased with full M Performance parts

Just hours after revealing the all-new 2020 BMW 1 Series, BMW’s M Performance subdivision has gone ahead and unveiled the full range of sporty enhancements and accessories that will be available to customers when the new model hits the market later this year. The parts are showcased on the new flagship M135i xDrive variant.

As we all know, the new 1 Series has switched to a front-/all-wheel drive platform, following years of rear-wheel drive. In that respect, now it’s perhaps even more of a hot hatch in the traditional sense. And with these range of M Performance parts it looks very fitting for that market segment.

BMW’s M Performance has put together a huge range of enhancement options for the new model. Starting with the exterior, buyers will be able to option for a complete aero kit upgrade with carbon fibre components and some high-gloss black highlights. There’s a bespoke front splitter system, racy rear spoiler, side skirts with black highlights, and a chunky carbon fibre rear diffuser.

BMW says these parts have been made from high-quality carbon fibre and have been tested in a wind tunnel for optimum aero efficiency and performance. Some carbon side mirror caps, black M kidney grilles at the front, and black window surrounds complete the look.

Buyers will have a range of alloy wheel options to choose from as well, including 18- and 19-inch forged wheels in Y-spoke 554M design, or Y-spoke 711M design. These can be had in jet black or Ferric Grey. There’s also 19-inch double spoke 555M wheels in a bi-colour theme.

Behind the wheels buyers will be able to option for a special M Performance sports braking system, with red-painted four-piston calipers on the front and perforated discs. The rear features single-piston calipers but they are made from aluminium alloy like the front to save weight.

Lastly, various options are being presented for the interior, including an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a red mark at the 12 o’clock position, as well as carbon fibre paddle shifters, and carbon fibre trimmings for the centre console and dash. There’s also quality velvet velour floor mats with M Performance branding.

The 2020 BMW 1 Series is scheduled to go on sale in Europe from September, with an Australian debut likely late in the year. M Performance parts are currently available for a range of BMW models in Australia, and we’d anticipate most of this stuff presented here to be on offer at some stage.
