2019 Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee Night Eagle announced

Brett Davis

Jeep Australia is launching a couple of special editions for the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, called the Night Eagle. They both receive a range of special features and added value.

For the Cherokee Night Eagle there’s a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels, black window and fog light surrounds, black roof rails, and matt black Cherokee badges on the front doors. There’s also black Jeep badging on the front and back, and a Night Eagle badge on the tailgate.

More black stuff is added to interior, including for the gear shifter housing, door trims, and black seat stitching. Being based on the Longitude, a Uconnect 8.4-inch touch-screen media interface sits on the dash, packed with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

It’s a similar story with the Grand Cherokee Night Eagle. Jeep has fit some bespoke 20-inch black alloy wheels, with black treatment for the seven-slot grille at the front, black fog light and taillight housings, and more black for the roof rails and window surrounds. You can check out the full list of special features at the bottom of the story.

Speaking about the special editions, Guillaume Drelon, director of brand and product strategy at Jeep Australia, said:

“Based off the most affordable AWD variants of both nameplates, the Night Eagle Special Editions provide not only a stunning and trendy look but also a very high content value to the customer which has in fact been improved further from their previous respective versions.”

Speaking of value, the Cherokee Night Eagle adds over $6400 worth of kit for only $3200 above the equivalent retail price of the standard version. The Grand Cherokee Night Eagle adds $10,400 of kit for only $5500 extra. Prices start from $45,150 for the Cherokee Night Eagle and from $58,450 for the Grand Cherokee Night Eagle (excluding on-roads).

Jeep does need to do something for the SUVs to help push some sales, as both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee aren’t really showing any dominance in their respective classes.

Cherokee sales so far this year (through April) have topped just 168 units (down 8.7 per cent YTD), giving it just 0.3 per cent market share in the otherwise popular mid-size class. The Grand Cherokee has reported 877 sales (down 37.5 per cent YTD), giving it 2.5 per cent market share in its segment.
