Video: 2016 Peugeot 308 GTi review – first impressions (POV)

In the market for a potent hot hatch? Peugeot recently introduced the all-new 308 GTi. We’re testing it right now, but before the full review we thought we’d put together a quick first impressions drive video for you.

2016 Peugeot 308 GTI review

The 308 GTi is available in two states of tune; the 250 and 270, referring to horsepower. This translates to 184kW and 200kW in modern speak, making it one of the most powerful front-wheel drive hot hatches on the market.

First up we’re testing the entry 250 version. Even at this output though the GTi is a feisty little beast. It really hauls, pulling through all gears with utter relentlessness. This is surprising when you consider there is only a 1.6-litre engine stuffed under the bonnet. Mind you, the large turbo is puffing in over 30psi of boost.

So far we like the cool, understated looks (for a hot hatch), and the superb handling. We also like the fuss-free interior and plush materials. As for criticisms? We’re not a fan of the speaker-induced engine noises that come through the cabin in Sport mode. We also think it desperately needs a limited-slip differential – fortunately the top 270 version comes with one.

Take a look at the POV test drive below for a quick look. We’ll be posting the full review and usual performance video soon.
