For Sale: 1971 Mercedes 220D with Lexus 1UZFE V8 conversion

This car started life as a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 220D with a whopping 44kW, however, it’s fair to say it’s now far from its original glory.

Originally a 220D sedan, it has been converted into a ute and now sports a 4.0-litre Lexus 1UZFE V8 and an automatic transmission. With a V8 replacing the old diesel engine, it shouldn’t have any trouble beating the 220D’s mind-blowing top speed of 133km/h.

The body has been professionally converted so that it can carry out work just as any regular commercial vehicle would. It even has a closable lid. While it’s not quite a HSV Maloo, it’s certainly something different.

The interior looks about the only part of the car that hasn’t been modified. The original steering wheel is still in place, as is the original dash and seats.

The car is located in South Africa, and has an asking price of 75,000 South African Rand (just over AU$7500). If you’re interested in this highly-modified Mercedes, head over to Sedgefield Classic Cars website.
