Peugeot 208 GTi Concept revealed

Peugeot has revealed the new Peugeot 208 GTi Concept ahead of its 2012 Geneva Motor Show unveiling. It features various sporty styling highlights, as well as a 1.6-litre turbo with 147kW.

Teased just earlier today, Peugeot has surprised us all by revealing images of an impressive little hot hatch 208 GTi Concept. It is just a concept vehicle at this stage, however, a production version is said to be planned for later in the year.

The concept features a wide-body bodykit, which extends the width by 36mm over the normal Peugeot 208, as well as neat front and rear spoilers. There’s also plenty of chrome highlights, large alloy wheels, and brushed aluminium side mirrors.

The front end showcases full LED lighting, while in the centre grille sits a brushed aluminium GTi Concept logo, also found on the rear quarter panels, commemorating the legendary 205 GTi.

Under the bonnet is the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Peugeot RCZ, producing 147kW of power and 275Nm of torque. It’s unknown at this stage if this engine will be used for the production model.

Other highlights include a performance braking system using 302mm front and 249mm rear disc brakes, and a very sporty and quite interesting interior with Alcantara trimmings and a small sports steering wheel, as well as double-stitched sports seats, a touch screen display, and funky red highlights.

Although a 208 GTi badge is yet to be officially announced, a slightly toned down version of the concept is likely to enter production later in the year. We hope so, it would be a little ripper of a car, especially if that engine sticks.

More details will be released at the Geneva show, starting March 6.
