Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle & Freedom editions on sale in Australia

Brett Davis

Jeep Australia is getting ready for the introduction of the next-gen Wrangler, by sending off the current JK model with two special editions. Welcome to the Wrangler Golden Eagle and the Wrangler Freedom.

Starting with the Golden Eagle, Jeep has taken the Wrangler Sport and added a number of special features and unique visual highlights. From the outside fans will spot the exclusive ‘Sunrider’ soft-top roof, paired with some 18-inch bronze-painted aluminium wheels.

The special edition is inspired by the iconic Golden Eagle special edition from the 1980s. It draws its inspiration from military Jeeps. Some of the interior highlights span from tinted windows, an Alpine stereo system, and special embroidered Golden Eagle front seats.

For the Wrangler Freedom, this takes its inspiration from Jeeps used on the battlefield in the 1940s. The exterior is finished with a number of decals, including a Freedom Star on the bonnet and rear quarter panel, green Oscar Mike badge, a green Trail Rated badge, and a Granite Crystal 7-slot front grille. It’s also based on the Sport variant, but it comes with a premium black ‘Sunrider’ soft-top.

Power for both models comes from the 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine that produces 209kW. In Golden Eagle form buyers can select between two-door and four-door body styles, with either a six-speed manual or five-speed auto. Meanwhile, the Freedom comes in two- and four-door guise but with a five-speed auto only. Speaking about the special editions, Guillaume Drelon, Jeep Australia brand director, said:

“With lineage that can be traced back to the legendary Willys Jeep – which were once produced here in Australia – these Wrangler heritage editions tie back to Jeep’s military origins with the ‘Freedom Edition” and to one of the most popular special editions back in the 80s with the ‘Golden Eagle’. We are very excited to bring them to Australia and pay tribute to Jeep’s heritage with these two stylish and bold Limited Editions.”
