Jaguar XE on sale in Australia from $60,400, arrives September

Brett Davis

A potential game changer is almost here; the new Jaguar XE sedan. Local prices and model variants have just been announced before it arrives on September 1.

Jaguar XE S

Four variant grades will be available, spanning from the Prestige, R-Sport, Portfolio, to the range-topping S. These are divided up further with four different engine options for certain levels.

Kicking off the range, the Prestige will come in 2.0-litre turbo-petrol form producing 147kW and 280Nm, followed up by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel producing 132kW and 430Nm. At the top for the Prestige is the ‘25t’ featuring a 2.0-litre turbo with 177kW and 340Nm.

Moving up to the R-Sport, customers will be able to select between the same three engine options mentioned above, while the Portfolio will be only available with the 25t 2.0-litre offering 177kW.

At the very top of the range, the S comes exclusively with a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 barking out 250kW and 450Nm. This is the same glorious engine that powers the F-Type sports car, where it lets out an almighty six-cylinder soundtrack.

All models come with double wishbone suspension with integral link rear suspension promising precise handling and a comfortable ride. Jaguar is calling the XE the smallest, lightest, and stiffest Jaguar sedan. It’s also the most aerodynamic, with a drag co-efficient of just 0.26.

In terms of numbers, the base model diesel consumes an unbelievable 4.2L/100km on the official combined cycle, while the top V6 can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. Part of this performance comes thanks to the all-new aluminium chassis, with kerb weights spanning from 1565kg for the diesel, to 1530kg for the 2.0T, to 1665kg for the V6.

All variants are impressively equipped, with standard features like an 8.0-inch touch-screen interface at minimum, a 380-Watt Meridian audio system at minimum, power seats, HID xenon headlights, and an eight-speed auto across the board.
