Could this be an early depiction of the rumoured Porsche 911 R? The digital sketch has just surfaced online and has fans buzzing with excitement.

2016 Porsche 911 R-design render

We heard about the supposed 911 R earlier in the week. It’s set to be a rawer version of the 911 GT3, with, most importantly, a manual transmission as opposed to the new GT3 which is auto-only.

According to the rumours and a Road and Track report, the model will be a strict special edition built in limited numbers. Power will apparently come from the same engine as featured in the GT3, comprising of a 3.8-litre flat six producing 350kW.

Where they say it will be rawer and more stripped back is with the exterior. The big rear wing is expected to be dropped from the GT3, while various aero parts are said be toned down somewhat.

It all seems to point exactly in the direction of this sketch. Of course, it may have been produced by someone independent, using these rumoured details as a guide.

Nonetheless, the car is said to be on the way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original 911R from 1967. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with any official details that we hear.
