A special version of the Audi R8 sports coupe is being showcased at the 2017 New York Auto Show, called the Audi Sport Edition.

This R8 is liquid silver with black titanium grille highlights, dark 20-inch alloy Y-spoke wheels, with red highlights on the mirrors. Other colours available include Mythos black and Ibis white. Brake calipers can be painted red or anthracite black, depending on which body colour it is contrasting. The signature side panels are also painted in unmistakable red.

Inside, there are red Nappa leather highlights on the side bolsters of the seats and door trims, plus a red accent on the steering wheel. Special door sills also signify that this is not your ordinary R8.

The special edition is being built to commemorate the brand’s cracker of a year in motorsports. The four-ringed marque enjoyed over 85 racing victories for 2016. Just 200 examples will hit the market.

In Australia, the R8 is sold in two variants; the $354,900 R8 V10 and $389,000 R8 Plus. The base model makes 397kW/540Nm from its V10 for a 0-100km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds, while the Plus winds that up to 449kW and 560Nm, shaving three tenths of a second off the 0-100km/h sprint.

There is no word yet on whether this limited edition will reach our shores, but we will keep you posted.
