2017 Holden Astra Sedan on sale in Australia from $21,990

Holden is getting set to launch the all-new Astra Sedan on July 1, which is a direct descendant of the Australian-built Holden Cruze that stopped production last October.

The all-new Astra Sedan will serve as a counterpoint to the Polish-built Astra hatch already on sale, and is still known as the Chevrolet Cruze in most markets.

Holden’s MD, Mark Bernhard, was vocal about the car’s positioning and strongest attributes. In a statement, he said:

“Launching with $21,990 driveaway puts Astra right at the pointy end of small-car segment pricing and then when you consider Capped Price Servicing totaling only $916 for the first three years or 60,000km, customers can be sure they’ve got a great deal and will be well looked after.”

Four models are on offer; LS, LS+, LT and LTZ, all equipped with a 1.4-litre turbocharged, 110kW/245Nm engine, meaning the unloved 1.8 Ecotec does not carryover. A six-speed auto is standard on all models, with a six-speed manual available on the base LS.

The car, Holden says, has benefited from extensive Australian tuning by local chassis engineers, who did a fantastic job of transforming the previous Cruze.

This second-generation car was scheduled for Australian production until circumstances conspired to relegate it back to import status.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and reversing camera are standard across the range. Here is a breakdown of model specifications and pricing:
