2017 BMW 2 Series LCI update on sale in Australia from $52,900

Brett Davis

Following the announcement of the BMW 1 Series LCI last week, the local arm is now introducing the updated 2 Series coupe and convertible.

For the update some cosmetic changes have been made, including new LED fog lights for all variants, along with a revised front bumper bar with new intakes, more pronounced set of grilles, and some new L-shape LED taillights at the back.

Inside, the new 2 Series gets BMW’s latest iDrive 6 operating interface with tile-like app functionality, while some of the trimmings have been tweaked such as for the instrument cluster. New stitching also helps boost the luxury ambience, with Dakota leather or cloth and Alcantara upholstery.

Three main variant lines are offered in Australia, spanning from the 220i, 230i, to the range-topping M240i. All are powered by a turbo-petrol engine, with the two entry models using a 2.0-litre four-cylinder generating 135kW and 185kW, respectively. Both offer an average fuel consumption of 5.9L/100km, with 0-100km/h in 7.2 and 5.6 seconds, respectively.

At the top, the M240i is powered by a 3.0-liitre inline six developing an impressive 250kW and 500Nm, which is enough to see off 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Its fuel economy average is 7.1L/100km.

Both coupe and convertible are on offer, with the same engine packages although fuel economy and performance are slightly tarnished. These all go on sale from September, with prices starting from the following (excluding on-roads). See further below for highlight standard features.
