New 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe now on sale in Australia

The sporty new 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe has arrived and is now available to order through Australian showrooms. The new model showcases a fresh new design in tune with the company’s latest ‘fluidic’ styling language.

The new model is available in three different trim levels; the Active, Elite, and Highlander. All come with four-wheel drive running gear, with the Active available with either a petrol engine or a diesel unit. The Elite and Highlander are only available with the diesel.

The petrol unit is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder ‘GDI’ with direct injection. It produces 141kW of power and 242Nm of torque, which is not bad for a medium-sized SUV. It can be matched up to either a six-speed auto or manual transmission. Both come with an ADR combined cycle fuel economy rating of 9.0L/100km.

For the diesel fans, the new Santa Fe comes with a 2.2-litre CRDi four-cylinder using common rail injection. It produces a healthy 145kW of power and a strong 421Nm of torque (436Nm in auto form). In manual form ADR has given it a combined cycle fuel economy rating of 6.6L/100km, while the auto is rated at 7.3L/100km.

Standard features for the base model Active include 17-inch alloy wheels, rear-view parking camera, auto headlights, and a 4.3-inch touch screen multimedia interface with MP3 and Bluetooth support. For off-roading, all models also get Downhill Brake Control.

Stepping up into the Elite, added features over the Active include a 7.0-inch touch screen interface with satellite navigation, automatic wipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, a premium six-speaker audio system, climate control, and, among other things, a chrome front grille.

The top-of-the-range Highlander adds 19-inch alloy wheels, HID Xenon headlights, power front seats with memory functions for the driver, seat warmers, and a large panoramic glass roof to really boost the in-cabin environment and airiness.

Prices for the new model are as follows (excluding on-road costs):

2012 Hyundai Sante Fe Active with 2.4 petrol (manual) – $36,990
2012 Hyundai Sante Fe Active with 2.4 petrol (auto) – $38,990
