2012 Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo BMW 6 Series at Tokyo Show

Renowned BMW tuner, Alpina, has unveiled the new 2012 Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo coupe at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. This is one of the first tuning packages we’ve seen based on the new BMW 6 Series Coupe.

Alpina has based its new model on the new BMW 650i, with its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. In standard form, the engine produces 300kW of power and 600Nm of torque. The 2012 Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo gets new MAHLE pistons, revised turbochargers running 14.5psi, a new titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, two water-to-air intercoolers, and a remapped ECU to boost power to an M5-like 397kW and 700Nm.

Alpina says the kit is able to propel the B6 from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, and onto a top speed of 320km/h. The performance improvements are also thanks to an advanced SWITCH-TRONIC eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission which has been developed by Alpina and ZF.

Setting the exterior apart from the normal BMW 650i Coupe is a complete Alpina bodykit, incorporating new front and rear bumper bars, new spoilers front and rear, and a new carbon fibre front splitter which guides air up and around the B6 for improved aero efficiency. There’s also a rear wing mounted on the boot lid. All up, these aero revisions reduce underbody air flow by up to 10 per cent resulting in 14 per cent less lift in the front end.

Inside, the 2012 Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo occupants are treated to a bespoke Alpina decor, including hand-stitched LAVALINA leather, classic blue details and lighting, traditional Alpina wood trimmings, as well as a new Alpina steering wheel and plenty of Alpina logos and custom highlights.

Other features include a set of traditional-style ‘Classic’ 20-inch Alpina lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, measuring 255/35 ZR20 on the front and 285/30 ZR20 on the back.

The Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo is also available in convertible form.
